Charges are likely to be laid against the driver of the car that was involved in Sunday’s road accident at Pearl, East Bank Demerara that claimed the life of Police Corporal Sharyn Denny. Investigations have since revealed that the driver of the car was unlicensed. He was also found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Up to press time yesterday the driver of the car who has been identified as ‘Ray’ remained in police custody. In the meantime, the relatives of the dead police corporal are awaiting the results of the post mortem examination.
The driver of the Tacoma in which Denny was travelling remained hospitalised up to press time yesterday as well as his son, Michael White.
On Sunday, the two vehicles were heading toward the Soesdyke/Linden Highway when the car attempted to overtake the Toyota Tacoma on the main bridge entering Pearl.
The car clipped the back of the Tacoma and sent it flying over a culvert and into a nearby canal. Denny, who was in the front seat with the driver, Patrick De Freitas, was knocked unconscious when the vehicle crashed into the canal.
There are speculations that Denny drowned since his face was partly submerged. Investigations are ongoing.
