The Special Events Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board will on Sunday June 27 host a one-day seminar for Junior Cricket Captains.
The Clinic is another programme under the Board’s aggressive coaching project directed towards the development of all young cricketers in the Ancient County.
Chairman of the Berbice Cricket Board Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster who is coordinating the event stated that the seminar is the start of phase two of the Coaching Programme.
Phase one was completed last week when a batting clinic was held for 30 players at the Albion Community Centre Ground.
Clinics were also held for fast bowlers, spinners and wicketkeepers as part of phase one and an elite squad of 50 players was selected from over 100 who attended the four clinics.
Foster explained that the selected players would be part of the 2010 Berbice Cricket Board Academy in late July and would also be exposed to modern training techniques under an Elite Junior Coaching Programme that would be launched after the Academy.
The Clinic would be held at the Albion Community Centre Ground and the Board has invited several experienced professionals to lecture the youngsters on a series of topics relating to captaincy.
Among the topics are: what is leadership, responsibility of a Captain, conduct of a Captain, field placement, umpire signals, public speaking, importance of personal discipline and relationship with players and officials.
The following players have been selected to be part of the seminar and are asked to report to the Albion Community Centre Ground June 27 at 08:30hrs in proper attire: Nicholas Cameron, Arif Chan, Hakeem Hinds, Daniel Lewis, Brandon Persaud, Vievora Gooniah, Sharaz Ramcharran, Shawn Pereira, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, Quacy McPherson, Romario De Jonge, Shailendra Shameer, Shimron Hetmyer, Linden Austin, Sachin Dhaniram, Davindra Jainabi, Veerapen Permaul, Avinash Wajid, Lloydel Lewis, Sharmindra Hardyal, Kevin Ramdeen, Jamally Odle and Meron Williams.
The Board is also encouraging all clubs in Berbice especially those in the rural areas to send their captains at the junior levels; Under-13 to 19 to the seminar.
Clubs are encouraged to call the Board office on 333 2375 to register the names of captains before Friday June 25.
