Ransford Goodluck, the Caribbean’s top sharpshooter, returned to local competition with similar enthusiasm in winning last Sunday’s Recorded Shoot at the Timehri Rifle ranges. Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud was also in good form ahead of the impending overseas competition.
Goodluck, who won the grand aggregate at the regional individual shooting championship recently in Barbados, dropped only one point at three ranges 300, 500 and 600 yards scoring 104 points with 15 V-bulls out of a possible 105 points.
He dropped one point at 300 yards (34:4) then shot two possibles 35:4 and 35:6 to win the day’s aggregate.
In second place was Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud who shot similar scores of 102:11 with Vice Captain Dylan Fields; however, Persaud placed higher on count back using the highest score at the longest range (600 yards).
Persaud shot 34:3 at 300; 34:4 at 500 and 34:4 at 600 yards while the younger Fields shot scores of 34:4 – (300); 34:4 (500) and 34:3 at 600 yards respectively.
In fourth place was retired ACP Paul Slowe who shot a possible 35:5 at 300 then shot 33:1 and 33:4 to finish with 101: 10. Rain interrupted shooting a few times on an almost perfect day with the winds almost being a negligible factor.
Goodluck and Persaud are fine turning their preparation for the Annual Bisley championships in the United Kingdom next month as part of their training for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in India.
According to Persaud when the two-man team returns from Bisley they will concentrate on shooting at 300 and 1000 yards until the Commonwealth Games in October.
