A Georgetown- based police sergeant, his brother and another man are in custody following a robbery at Hubu, Parika Backdam last night.
Preliminary reports state that two men, Ryan Kailan, 17, and a friend, Vijay Seepaul, were sitting on a stand when a car with three men pulled up. One of the men brandished a firearm and in league with the others, proceeded to rob the pair of their cellular phones, a silver chain and other articles that the men had in their possession.
Soon after the robbers left Kailan and Seepaul raised an alarm that brought the ranks from the Parika Police Station rushing to the area.
In the process they apprehended the car and the three men, one of whom turned out to be a policeman.
A check of his name revealed that he is a police sergeant who was not stationed in the division.
This discovery sent the senior ranks into a rash of activity to determine the extent of robberies during the night and whether these men might have been on a spree.
Up to late last night the divisional command could not ascertain whether other robberies had been committed but the fact that one of their own was involved has created embarrassment among the other ranks.
The three are in custody and the car has been impounded.
