With no new clue as to whether 46-year-old kidnapped businessman, Fabian Gonsalves, called Vampa, might be alive, police have confirmed that to date they are still no new developments.
Essequibians now fear the worst for Gonsalves, especially since it has been more than one week he was abducted.
Many who spoke to this newspaper in anonymity said they have been hearing a number of rumours, some beyond belief.
The police say that they have been following every lead but they continue to come up empty handed. Up to yesterday morning they were scouring locations in the Pomeroon River.
At a recent RDC meeting, PNCR councillor Mr. Rudolph Garraway informed colleagues that the residents in Pomeroon are now very fearful, especially at nights. The councillor related that many residents can’t sleep, and are particularly unnerved by the sounds of high-powered speedboats traversing the area.
A Pomeroon resident who is also a fuel dealer has testified about strange boats with persons who he presumed to be foreigners purchasing three drums of gasoline, the evening prior to Gonsalves’s abduction.
The dealer also said that he observed the men exiting in the vicinity of the upper Pomeroon area the night of Fabian Gonsalves’s abduction.
According to a police report, Fabian Gonsalves, formerly of both Jacklow, Lower Pomeroon, and Hampton Court, was abducted from his mother-in law Carol Adams’s residence around 22:00 hrs last week Thursday.
The report further stated that Gonsalves, a boat builder, was in the company of his mother-in-law and another boat builder, Chris Williams, viewing television, when three armed men entered their home.
Police said the men made their way in through a partially opened door proceeded to handcuff both Mrs. Adams and Williams, then ordered them to lie face down on the ground before handcuffing Gonsalves and taking him away in a waiting boat.
No one was said to be hurt during the ordeal.
