Former junior chess champion Taffin Khan turned in a classical display, winning all three of his games to take the lead when action in the DDL Topco Juices Chess Tournament commenced at the Kieshar’s Sports Club, Hadfield Street, Georgetown over the past weekend.
Raymond Singh, a former national champion now residing in Canada, also won three games but had to be content with second place after Khan nosed ahead by dint of the tiebreaker system. Khan defeated Learie Webster, Errol Tiwari and Michael Pereira on his way to his current standing while Singh got the better of Ryan Singh, Michael Pereira and David Khan.
Four other players are bundled in second place, each with two points apiece. They are David Khan, Errol Tiwari, Shiv Nandalall and Learie Webster while Michael Pereira, Ryan Singh and Alex Joseph are all bundled in the cellar with one point apiece.
Meanwhile, junior player, Saeed Ali won all of his games to lead the points standing in that category. His cousin, Sham Khan finished second on 4 points while Khalid Gajraj is third on 31/2 points.
Kana Khan has also scored 3 points while national junior champion Cecil Cox only managed to win two of his five games. Rashad Hussain and Devendra Singh are in the cellar with one point apiece.
