Rosignol United and Monedderlust will clash in the final of the 2010 Coca Cola sponsored Berbice Football Association (BFA) senior knock-out football competition following respective semi-finals wins on Saturday last at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground.
Playing in the feature game of the double header, Rosignol needled the courageous Cougars United in an exciting encounter. The two sides played fierce football and found goals hard to come by owing to solid defence work on either side of the pitch.
But it was the more alert Rosignol side that called on the experience gained from competing in the GFF National Super League who took their opportunity when it came their way.
It took a spectacular effort 10 minutes to full time by Cornel Taylor to separate the two rivals. Taylor’s 80th minute winner from almost on the goal line beat Cougars’ goalkeeper Ryan Kellowan, propelling his side into the championship game.
Monedderlust, no strangers to championship glory in the Ancient County are aiming to rekindle those flames. They defeated a young New Amsterdam United combination, 2-0. Marlon Welcome in the 17th minute and Erwin Johnson (67) were the players on target for Monedderlust.
Welcome slotted past the advancing Javano Luiz for the opener while Johnson’s lobbed ball from midfield caught keeper Luiz well off of his line; the ball settling at the back of nets.
The final and third place matches will be contested on Saturday under lights at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground from 18:00hrs with the 3rd place game featuring New Amsterdam United and Cougars.
