Mahaica led by a scintillating unbeaten knock of 61 from the tournament’s Most Valuable Player Kelvin James defeated Kuru Kuru by nine runs to capture the Noble House Seafood / AL Sport & Tour Promotions Region 4 Primary Schools Windball Cricket Championship which was played, at Timehri Red Ground recently.
In the play-off for third place Mon Repos beat Grove by a single run.
In the final-
Mahaica after being invited to take first strike made 73-1 with MVP of the Championship & Player James smashing eight maximums in his innings.
Kuru Kuru in their turn at the crease was restricted to 64-5 with Reon Mc Pherson 14 and Rickey Palsuram 13, being the principal scorers.
James returned to grab 3-8, while Orette Todd supported with 2-34.
In the third place game-
Mon Repos defeated Grove by one run.
Mon Repos batted first and reached 46-5 with player of the match Jaswant Murilall 25. Bowling for Grove, Joel Dick picked up 3-9 and Marlon Livan 2-20.
Grove in reply made 45-3. J Dick top-scored with 25.
Earlier in semi-final action-
Kuru Kuru beat Mon Repos by 12 runs.
Kuru Kuru elected to bat after winning the toss and rattled up 63-3 with Reon Mc Pherson hitting an unbeaten 52 which included six sixes. Bowling for Mon Repos, J Muritall snared 3-17.
Mon Repos in reply made 51-5. Ryan Bhickram made 21, while Mc Pherson picked up 2-8.
Mahaica then beat Grove by six wickets. Grove sent in to bat made 47-2 with Joel Dick 17 and Marlon Livan 13, the main contributors.
Mahaica replied with 48-4. K. James hit 37 not out that contained five sixes. M. Livan bagged 2-8.
Meanwhile, Co-ordinator of the tournament Alister Munroe extended special thanks to the Management and Ground staff of Enmore Estate, Timehri Red ground, Grove Play Field, Director of Youth Carl Brandon, CYS Officer Region #4 D Scipio, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport the Management and Staff of Noble House Seafood, AL Sport & Tour Promotions and all those officials who give of their time freely to ensure yet another successful tournament was staged.
