ALBION, CORENTYNE – A Berbice police rank was thrown in the lock-ups yesterday Tuesday after he failed to honour child-support obligations. Constable 19913 Lakeram Pardat, who is stationed at the Number Fifty-one Police Station, was summoned to attend the Whim Magistrate’s Court last Monday but failed to so do. The affiliation charge was brought up against him by Savitree Gangaram of Adventure Village, for his son.
Magistrate Tajpaul Ramroop then issued an arrest warrant for the rank.
He was subsequently detained the same day and appeared at the Albion Magistrate’s Court yesterday. When the presiding magistrate questioned him about his failure to appear in court, the prisoner could not offer a reason. He remanded him to police custody. The matter should be called up today at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
