Two persons were admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation following a head on collision between two trucks on the Greenfield Public Road, East Coast Demerara, early yesterday morning.
The two persons, including the driver of a Canter truck were among a total of nine persons injured in the accident.
All of the injured persons except one were travelling in the Canter truck which slammed into another truck which was ferrying hardware materials for the Gafsons Industries.
The driver of the Gafoors truck told investigators that he was proceeding east on his way to Rose Hall Berbice, when a car which was travelling in front of him suddenly slowed down.
The driver said that he tried to avoid slamming into the back of the car and instead ran head on into the Canter which had left Unity, Mahaica on its way to the city, loaded with agricultural goods.
So great was the impact that the front of the Canter was damaged beyond repairs.
All the injured persons were subsequently transported to the hospital and there are reports that the driver of the canter truck could lose both of his legs.
