The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) witnessed high attendances and full participation of stakeholders countrywide at various Consultations which commenced on May 17, 2010.
The Commission engaged its Constituencies and stakeholders within the regions and in the process, conducted its Strategic Assessment.
According to the ERC, the Commission has engaged approximately 340 persons from over 225 various organisations and from over 160 communities countrywide. This also included representatives from three Parliamentary Political Parties. The ERC is expecting to meet with members of the Government and The United Force soon.
The Commission engaged stakeholders in Linden and other sections of Region 10 on Friday, while Consultations will be held with persons from Region Three on June 08, 2010. Meetings were held in Regions Four, Five, Six and Seven where participants offered compliments, criticisms, recommendations and suggestions on how to improve the effectiveness of the Commission in the execution of its Constitutional mandate.
The ERC stated that these reviews will be considered during the Strategic Planning Meeting of the Commission, which will be held with the Commissioners, Senior Staff and with technical support from partners, covering the period 2010-2015. This will see the Commission strengthening its capacity and addressing priority issues facing the nation as it pertains to ethnic relations.
The ERC revealed that a validation workshop is planned for June 17, 2010 at the Guyana International Conference Centre, Liliendaal, where representatives who were selected during the Consultations will meet to discuss the recommendations and suggestions put forward by the stakeholders.
