The Guyana Red Cross Hinterland community-based water and sanitation project has been given a boost by the Demerara Oxygen Company Limited (DOCOL). DOCOL has handed over one dozen 20 lbs cylinders of Tex Gas, complete with fittings to the organisation to assist residents in Region One.
The programme is being funded through the European Union, which is co-ordinating the hinterland programme along with the French Red Cross Society.
The programme is aimed at improving the health status of members of poor hinterland communities, especially in Regions One and Nine. Project Co-ordinator, Suparna Bera, said the increased sustainable access to safe water and better community water management can do this, and DOCOL’s timely contribution will help.
DOCOL Marketing Manager, Gopienauth Sowdagar said that his company was always willing to support community-based initiatives.
