Controversial highway death…
– police take suspect back to “accident scene”
Police yesterday detained two more men as they intensified investigations into the suspected murder of 23-year-old Linden taxi driver Damion Lindore.
Kaieteur News understands that one of the suspects is a popular minibus driver.
The minibus driver was reportedly arrested after information surfaced that he had owed Lindore a large sum of money.
Four other men who are reportedly linked to the case are still in custody. The suspects include a police rank, two brothers from Linden, and a Georgetown resident, known as ‘Bolo’, who reportedly admitted to helping to rob and kill Lindore.
A source close to the investigation said that detectives took ‘Bolo’ back to the “accident scene” and also reexamined the “crashed” vehicle.
The source further said that the suspect who confessed had a confrontation with the brothers and another suspect.
Meanwhile, one of the persons at the centre of the allegations has reached out to Kaieteur News.
In a telephone interview, the suspect has vehemently denied killing his friend Damion Lindore.
He said that the entire story is being concocted by a woman who was close to the victim.
The man alleged that on Independence Day, he and Lindore left Linden and were making their way to a resort on the Soesdyke/ Linden Highway.
He claimed that Lindore saw a “dog” and tried to swerve away from it.
“It was not a murder…..we were in an accident and ‘Dimi’ died…that’s the truth” the suspect said.
He said that he really cannot comprehend why the woman continues to tell people that he (the suspect) wasn’t injured in the accident.
According to the man, he has a fractured left leg and is suffering from severe pains about the body.
He also claimed that Lindore and the detained police officer never had a dispute, and also claimed that it was the same woman, and not the cop, who had damaged Lindore’s windscreen.
Meanwhile the post mortem examination which was conducted on Lindore has suggested that his injuries are consistent with an accident.
However, relatives still believe that he was murdered by his friends and as such they are trying to procure the services of a foreign forensic pathologist.
On Wednesday the police rearrested alleged accident victim Kemal McCalmont, his brother, and a police officer from the Tactical Services Unit.
This newspaper was told that the suspect admitted he was part of a gang of several persons who robbed and killed Lindore before dumping his body on the highway.
The suspect further told the police that they removed several items from the slain man’s car and then damaged the vehicle to make it appear as if he had crashed.
The suspect is said to have implicated McCalmont and his older brother, whom he claimed lured Lindore to the scene.
Lindore’s relatives from the inception had questioned circumstances under which the man had died.
Initial reports were that Lindore, called ‘Pinta’ or Dimi’, and 25-year-old Kemal McCalmont, both of Wisroc, Linden, were on their way to a resort on the highway when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a dog.
Lindore was reported to have subsequently lost control of the vehicle which toppled several times.
He was reportedly flung through the front windscreen of his car, HB 8153, which relatives said he had only bought a few months ago.
Lindore’s reputed wife had told Kaieteur News that he had about $700,000 in his possession. The money along with the dead man’s jewellery was missing when he was found. His vehicle was also stripped of its valuables.
