– Mother, four sons escape uninjured
A dilapidated two-storey building came crashing down last evening at 28 Duncan Street, Campbellville.
Miraculously, a mother and her four sons were not seriously injured in the mishap. However, two were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were treated for abrasions.
The woman, Catherina Adams, was traumatized as she stood across the road trying to absorb what had just happened.
In her moment of despair, Adams related that before the building collapsed all they heard was a crackling sound. She insists that there must have been divine intervention, as she was with her four sons in the upper flat in the hallway when the house came crashing down.
Adams recalled that she crawled out after ensuring that her children were safe and secure outside. No one was seriously injured, since the building did not fall directly upon them.
“It all happened in a minute.” Adams said.
Electrical wires were severed from the post but no fire ensued.
She disclosed that she lived in the house for 40 years, but had planned on moving out Saturday to live at a relative. In her shocked state, the woman could not properly assess her losses.
At the scene many neighbours consoled her, while curious onlookers converged to look at the rubble in a site where a building once stood.
Adams revealed that the property belonged to a deceased relative.
She said that her youngest son is seven years of age and the eldest, 11. She also has two older daughters, but they are not living with her.
