In a 360 degree turn from the initial proposal of a Third Round Group featuring four countries battling for the final 3-places for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) has altered the format for qualifying yet again.
Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti and Cuba were scheduled to compete for the 3-places but the CFU has announced that Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti have been given the first two berths with Guyana and Cuba set to battle for the other place.
The two countries will play in a home and away playoff with the first game set for Cuba on June 18, the second leg will be played here on July 2.
Trinidad & Tobago had defeated Guyana 3-0 at the Marvin Lee Stadium to win Group F of the second round, triumphing in all 3 of their games with the ‘Lady Jags’ winning two of their three, Barbados and St. Lucia were the other countries in the group.
Like Trinidad, Haiti finished atop Group G following wins over Cuba, Puerto Rico and Antigua & Barbuda.
The winner of the home and away tie between Guyana and Cuba will complete the eight-team Women’s Gold Cup field, joining North American sides Canada, Mexico and the United States, along with Central American qualifiers Costa Rica and Guatemala.
Was Jagdeo honest when he made those promises?
