A brilliant allround performance from national cricketer and West Indies ODI player Royston Crandon led his team Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets to a crushing nine wickets victory over arch rivals Young Warriors in the final of the Port Mourant Cricket Club sponsored 20/20 Tournament on Wednesday last.
Playing in front of a large and colourful holiday crowd, Crandon took two wickets and then returned to score a brutal 40 not out.
Young Warriors batting first were dismissed for a disappointing 58 in 10 Overs with only Farouk Hussain 22 and Richard Ramdeen 11 reaching double figures as the Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets bowlers bowled well. Medium pacer Assad Fudadin took 3 for 12, Renwick Batson 2 for 17, Royston Crandon 2 for 5 and Troy Mathieson 2 for 6. In reply Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets rattled up 63 for 1 off just 5.3 Overs with Crandon hitting 3 sixes and 3 fours in his 40 not out while Fudadin was 18 not out. Paul Wintz dismissed national player Delbert Hicks for five to end with 1 for 11 off two Overs.
Earlier Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets brushed aside power house Albion by eight wickets while Young Warriors defeated Port Mourant by 18 runs to reach the final. Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets held Albion to 77 for 6 in their allotted 10 Overs with former West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon topscoring with 20, while Imran Khan and Veerasammy Permaul scored 16 each. Damon Vantull was the most successful bowler for Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets with 2 for 12. In reply Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets reached 81 for 2 in 8.1 Overs with Crandon unbeaten on 52 and Fudadin on 10 not out.
Young Warriors spoiled the day for the host when they defeated them in front of hundred of local fans. Young Warriors blasted 95 for 6 off the allotted 10 Overs with national player Gajanand Singh scoring 47 not out with one six and five fours. Paul Wintz supported with 15 not out while Herman Latcha took 2 for 17. Port Mourant in reply were never in the hunt and at the end of their 10 Overs were 77 for five with national player Homchand Pooran topscoring with 27 not out. Left arm pacer Devindra Ramoutar took 2 for 12 and Gajanand Singh 2 for 15.
At the presentation ceremony, President of the Port Mourant Cricket Club Godfrey Persaud hailed the support of the large crowd and stated that all effort would be made to return the historic Club to its glory days. He expressed gratitude to the three visiting teams, the Berbice Cricket Board, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, GUYSUCO, C. Gobin, Pooran Narine, Peter Lewis, Amanda Costume & Jewellery for their support and sponsorship of the Tournament.
Among the prizes shared out was Best Wicketkeeper – Delbert Hicks, Best Batsman and MVP – Royston Crandon, Best Bowler – Assad Fudadin while the teams received trophies. Crandon received a bicycle for his prize as MVP while the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club donated back its winning purse of $10,000 back to Port Mourant Cricket Club for usage for its Under-15 Team.
