Dear Editor,
As Guyana celebrates its 44th anniversary as an independent nation, I wonder if we would not have been better off under colonial rule.
Forty-four years of independence and nothing to show for it.
Guyana has been reduced to one of the poorest countries in the world, and the recent animalistic behaviour of the coward who attacked Freddie Kissoon, is a strong indication that some people are becoming primitive and uncivilized.
I have been critical of Freddie Kissoon like so many others; but he has been a tremendous source of knowledge to the public, criticizing government’s incompetence and mismanagement as he sees it; never afraid to speak his mind.
Admittedly, he is a constant thorn in the side of the PPP/C Administration, but not without reason.
However, trying to humiliate and shut up Freddie this way has already proven a failure.
I sincerely hope that the Guyana police arrest this piece of filth for his attack on Freddie, with the same fervour as they did in the case of Peter Ramsaroop.
The Guyana police are very resourceful and can be very efficient if they choose to be. I feel sure they already know who the perpetrators are; but will they be free to execute an arrest?
Freedom of the press should not be compromised, and this is another reason for the urgent need of the Freedom of Information Act.
