– friend gives statement about illegal act prior to tragedy
Police have detained the survivor of Wednesday’s Soesdyke/Linden highway crash to get to the bottom of several puzzling aspects surrounding the death of taxi driver Damien Lindore.
Relatives said that 25-year-old Kemal McCalmont was picked up by police at his Wisroc home around 14:30 hrs, shortly after he was discharged from hospital.
He was still in custody last night.
Contrary to earlier reports, McCalmont only sustained minor injures.
Meanwhile, police officials confirmed that they have taken a statement from a man who claimed that he had accompanied Lindore and McCalmont to an area on the highway to commit “an illegal act” some hours before Lindore was killed.
According to the official, the man stated that they were confronted by another group of men, who prevented them from carrying out the act.
Close associates of Lindore had told Kaieteur News that the taxi driver and others had gone to the area to strip a Dodge Ram, when they were confronted by a group of men.
There are reports that the men apprehended one of Lindore’s friends, while the taxi driver and the others escaped.
The pickup that Lindore was driving at the time sustained damage to the windscreen during the confrontation.
It is alleged that Lindore and Mc Calmont were heading back to the area to look for the missing friend when they crashed. According to this report, Lindore lost control of the car when he swerved from a dog.
The car reportedly toppled over several times and Lindore was allegedly flung from through the vehicle’s windscreen.
But Lindore’s relatives are convinced that the accident was staged and that he was the victim of foul play.
Lindore’s reputed wife, Nikisha Elexey, told Kaieteur News that he had about $700,000 in his possession.
She alleged that the cash, along with his jewellery, have disappeared.
She also expressed suspicion about the lack of blood in the wrecked car. Elexey said that she called her reputed husband around 19:00 hrs and Lindore said that he was “going and set a hustle” on the highway.
According to the woman, Lindore had left with three friends.
Elexey said she called again about an hour later and Lindore said that “something bad happen.” She said he promised to call back but never did and she was subsequently informed of his death.
