Yet another execution style killing rocked the city as a guard attached to a popular city businessman was gunned down on Camp Street.
Reports are that 36 year-old Sidwell Dexter Collins called ‘Gold teeth’ was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital some time after 1:00 hour yesterday.
The man’s reputed wife, Keisha Van Doiman, told this newspaper that around 20:00 hours Collins left their South Turkeyen home informing her that he was going to make routine security checks at some of his boss’s premises.
The woman said that it was customary for Collins to call her and he knew in advance that he would be late. She added that after not receiving any telephone call she went to bed. According to Van Doiman, around 06:15 hours yesterday she received a phone call from a friend who asked her if she heard what happen to her reputed husband.
“Me friend tell me that she see something in the newspaper saying that a Dexter Collins get shoot…and she ask if I hear from he,”.
The distraught woman said that she began calling his cellular phone but she got no answer; the calls kept going to voicemail. She added that as she continued to call eventually someone answered the phone enquiring who she was to Collins.
Once she identified herself, she said that she was asked to make her way down to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where her worst fears were confirmed.
The woman said that she visited the hospital where she positively identified the bullet riddled body of her reputed husband.
Van Doiman said she was further invited to the Alberttown Police Station where she was made to give a statement.
Meanwhile, persons at the Georgetown Public Hospital said that some 20 minutes prior to the shooting Collins was at the hospital talking with friends. One man said, “Imagine 20 minutes before this man went right here talking with we and minutes after he come back a dead man”.
Relatives said that the man had earlier informed them that he was going to make checks at Eccles and at Camp Street to ensure that the security guards who were supposed to be on duty was at their post.
Meanwhile this newspaper has been informed that police are working on several theories, including the fact that Collins may have been killed after he participated in an identification parade, recently.
Collins was gunned down while standing on Camp Street outside the old Belvedere compound. Reports are that a lone gunman walked up to him and opened fire on him, mortally wounding him.
