Dear Editor,
Toolsie Persaud Limited did extremely well in extending financial support to potential track star, “Kenneth Semple” which will go towards a two-month scholarship training stint in Trinidad and Tobago at an elite camp which produced medalists for TT during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
This reading appeared in the SN dated May 8, 2010.
Kenneth Semple, embrace this opportunity that came your way for many would only dream of such an opportunity.
I can safely say that my quest of highlighting sports fraternities and potential sports ambassadors via the dailies have not been going in vain and the icing on the cake for me would be to witness Guyana on the track podium of the Olympic Games and The World Championships.
Perusing the GT dated May 13, 2010, I was elated to read that The Golden Arrowhead has been allotted four or five spots during the inaugural “Youth Olympic Games” slated for August in Singapore.
I would be so happy if accomplished regional swimming ace “Stephenson” make the qualifying timings and make up the five in numbers to represent Guyana.
Chavez Ageday, Jevina Straker, Henk Lowe and Adeille Roshuvel, expect fierce competition from your global counterparts and it will be the toughest global challenge you could ever imagine.
Sacrifices should be made for practice sessions on a daily basis, meditation is good for the body and mind, spiritual guidance is also important and a healthy diet is priority.
For heavens sake, absolutely no performance enhancing drugs should be taken.
The last I checked, Giftland Store has DVDs on the following:2000 Sydney Olympic Games, 2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, 2009 World Championships and 2009 Zurich Games. Make an effort to get hold of copies because I believe it will give a deeper insight of techniques and speed by senior accomplished olympians. Of course, there is also a mix of sports cheats during the showings of some of the DVDs in question.
Having said that, an interesting 200m women’s match up will be at the Adidas Grand Prix slated for June 12, 2010 between my US queen Allyson Felix and Jamaican sensation Veronica Campbell Brown. Of course, Allyson Felix is one of my heartbeats of sports and I am rooting for her even though I will have to read about the results.
