The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony has extended his congratulation to the ‘Lady Jags’ following their qualification to the CAC Football tournament.
In his message the Minister stated that, the MCY&S has extended “…its unqualified congratulations to Guyana’s Women’s national football team, the talented ferocious and successful LADY JAGS, on their achievement of progression to the Central American and Caribbean Games scheduled for Puerto Rico in July.
This historic success has come about because of the team’s unprecedented victories and scores in the just concluded Caribbean Zone Women’s Gold Cup Competition which was completed in Trinidad and Tobago last week-end.”
“Everyone likes to be associated with success and consistent achievement, especially when those triumphs are as a result of patriotism and dedication combined with disciplined skills, strategic planning and implementation on and off the field of play. The Ministry of Sport therefore congratulates the Lady Jags on behalf of the sports lovers and entire nation of Guyana.
“We really realized the tenacity and quality of their play when they demolished opponents from Suriname and St. Vincent at Bourda. The Ministry’s presence at every match was meant to demonstrate its solidarity and practical support for the team’s largely overseas management and technical staff. The Ministry now pledges its continued support.”
“The Ministry shares the view that the team and its overseas management also represents a significant element of Guyana’s universal outreach at this time. That is illustrated by the make up of the Lady Jags whose members are from the Diaspora in North America with some home grown, home based players and coaches as well. The patriotism and pride of these skilful lady athletes show that you can be Guyanese wherever you are, or are called upon to demonstrate that commitment.
“A special word of commendation is very necessary for those parents and relatives of the players who expend their own resources of funds, time and encouragement for their daughters and their trainers and to be with them at kick off time. This is truly inspiring and worthy of emulation by all those who want to see their worthy offspring achieve the highest levels in their sport career.”
“The Lady Jags’ level of success after such a relatively limited period of getting together, practicing, encampment and competing also speaks volumes about the ability of the team’s management and technical support staff. This has not gone unnoticed as their competence should also be secured for the future.”
“The Guyana government has been known to be a practical supporter of Guyana’s football. The Ministry of Sport stands ready to hear the Lady Jaguars roars of success in Puerto Rico.”
