Beepat’s Scorpions to make event bigger, better
The third Annual Beepat’s Scorpions Inter-Organisation basketball tournament returns to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on May 26 with plans underway to make the event bigger and better this year after a decision to make it an annual feature.
Defending champions, Guyana Power and Light, spearheaded by former national player, Lugard Mohan will be hard pressed to maintain their superiority in the tournament after it was disclosed that some 20-plus teams will participate this year.
One of the organisers of the event, Head Coach of Beepat’s Scorpions, Vijay Panday told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that plans are moving apace to host the event that is geared at an overwhelming response from the local working class.
“Sometimes people who work don’t always get to come and see basketball so we have this tournament which is more like a family fun day for them. It must finish in one day because that is how we plan it,’ Panday said yesterday.
He said that a plan was to make it an annual feature after the first two years of its success with a small entrance fee being required. Panday informed that they will release the teams and more details sometime later this week.
