Dear Editor,
I would like to commend Kaieteur News and the Stabroek News for the brilliant job they have been doing for the Guyanese society.
We know what we know of the government because these two newspapers keep us informed. They are fulfilling their responsibility to the public.
Never mind the President Jagdeo’s outburst about “Cake Shop Reporting” whatever that means.
While I am at it, let me say that I continue to be disappointed at the strange utterances of the President of Guyana. His language is so not presidential and lacks the usual sophistication that underlies presidential talk.
This brings me to the question on his advisors. Who is advising the President of Guyana?
These dailies have been keeping Guyanese up to date with the going -on in this country, particularly in the area of bad governance, political mismanagement and corruption, especially when it comes to the awarding of special contracts to government cronies and friends.
Had it not been for the steadfast and fearless reporting of the journalists attached to these newspapers we would not have known about the many instances of corruption and shoddy civil works done by special friends of the ruling party.
Just recently, another facility – a koker door at Garden of Eden – collapsed. Earlier, a $600 million stelling collapsed. Then there is the situation with questionable land deals and a host of other really strange happenings involving taxpayers’ money.
Government has not been properly accounting for the multiplied millions it has been collecting, by way of taxes, and is spending it however it pleases. Notwithstanding the clumsy reactions of certain government officials, Kaieteur News and Stabroek News should continue to let the keep the public informed about the performance of the government and other areas of interest to the public.
Ranwell Charles
