EAST CANJE, BERBICE – Sixty-year old Dasrat of Cumberland, East Canje and 70-year old Amar Singh of Don Robin Farm are both enjoying some amount of freedom after receiving wheelchairs from the East Canje Lion’s Club last week.
Singh sustained a spinal cord injury and has been paralyzed for 13 years. Dasrat was involved in an automobile accident in 2008 and also suffered a similar fate.
Both were unable to purchase wheelchairs and are grateful to the members of the East Canje Lion’s Club.
President of the Lion’s Club, Devindra Sookraj, explained that one of the chairs was donated by overseas based Guyanese Prem Sukhoo who resides in Canada and the other was acquired by the organisation.
The club is also making the necessary plans for a medical team from Toronto to visit Guyana shortly to treat 2,000 eye patients.
