– as best second placed team from Group F&G in WGC qualifying
Guyana’s ‘Lady Jags’ have qualified for the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in July as the best second place team following competition in the Women’s Gold Cup second round qualifying competition, groups F&G in Trinidad and Tobago, last week.
The Caribbean Football Union announced last month that the winners of the respective second round groups, Puerto Rico and the best second place team will qualify for the CAC Games.
Guyana’s only loss in the second round was to host Trinidad and Tobago who won the rubber 3-0, the Guyanese ending after two wins with a +8 goal average, scoring 11 goals and conceding 3.
Trinidad who won the group ended with a +13 goal average in group F. Group G was won by Haiti who put aside the bad memories following the devastating earthquake to end with a perfect record undefeated after three games.
The Haitians beat Antigua & Barbuda 4-1; Cuba 3-0 and Puerto Rico 2-0. Cuba ended second in the group with 6 points the same as Guyana from group F but with a +3 goal difference.
The Cubans edged Puerto Rico 4-3, lost to Haiti and defeated Antigua & Barbuda 6-1 but it was not enough to deny the ‘Lady Jags’. (F. Wilson)
