Wendell Meusa maintains a slim lead in the KEISHAR’S FIDE qualifying chess tournament.
When play resumed last Wednesday, Meusa lead his nearest rival Taffin Khan by half of a point. In round five Meusa came up against Khan and in a battle for the lead the game ended in a draw giving Meusa a half of a point lead. Khan clearly had the advantage entering the endgame with five pawns and a bishop versus a pawn and two bishops, but was unable to convert a win due to a strong resistance from Meusa. In some other games of the evening, Ronuel Greenidge defeated Errol Tiwari, Shiv Nandalall defeated David Khan, Ron Motilall held Loris Nathoo to a draw, Learie Webster got past Dennis Dillon, Frankie Farley got the better of Michael Pereira, Sham Khan defeated Ryan Singh, while Raan Motilall got past Alex Joseph.
The points standing after five rounds, Wendell Meusa on four and a half, Taffin Khan, Shiv Nandalall and Ronuel Greenidge on four points apiece, Errol Tiwari, Loris Nathoo, David Khan, Frankie Farley and Learie Webster on three points apiece, Sham Khan, Ron Motilall and Raan Motilall on two and a half points, Michael Pereira, Ryan Singh, Saeed Ali and Dennis Dillon all on two points.
The tournament continues today from 14:30hours with round four and five for the juniors, while the seniors will play round six from 16:45 hours at the KEISHAR’S SPORT CLUB.
