The Central Police Operational Youth and Sports Club of New Amsterdam, Berbice which was formed recently continues to receive donations from members of the business community and other well wishers.
The Club has already received two set of complete uniforms inclusive of Caps, T-Shirts and Track pants which they used to participate in games and a special set of T-Shits, which they wear to attend meetings and travel with.
The Club is made up of regular police, their spouses and children, Special constables, Rural Constables, Neighbourhood Police, Members of the community policing groups in the area and other young people in general, with the bulk of the members coming from the Angoy’s Avenue Cow Dam area. According to coordinator, Station Sergeant Jairam Ramlakhan, the initiative was taken to concentrate on certain target areas as it will help the youths to stay out of trouble and actively involved in constructive activities.
“It is a new way of policing, especially where the scourge of illicit activities abound.” “We have to learn to battle the problems front on,” the wily policeman said.
The Guyana Police Force is grateful to Amerally Sawmills, Peter Lewis Construction, New Amsterdam Technical Institute, La Caribe Diner, Stretch D Dollar, J’s and A&R Supermarkets, Spready’s Bakery, Ansa Mc Al, Data and Buccaneer Cove Liquor Restaurants, Businessman David Armogan and John Cummings of GT&T among others.
