In preparation for the grand return of horseracing to the Mocha Arcadia venue, the management of the Georgetown Turf Club (GTC), Mocha Arcadia on the East Bank Demerara is currently upgrading the facility inclusive of infrastructure works to the track and spectators area.
The works are expected to be completed in time for the event scheduled for July month end next. The exact date would be released shortly.
The track was constructed by Michael Sims whose main aim was to bring horseracing closer to the city. Sims felt that despite the droves of fans that enjoyed the sport, the absence of an adequate facility close to Georgetown was curtailing their involvement. Mr. Sims had been out of the country for quite sometime and the facility had been inoperable.
However, officials of the GTC are currently engaged in works to facilitate the facelift which is expected to bring the facility back to an acceptable standard for planned upcoming events.
