Trophy Stall defeated Regal XI by 44 runs to claim the Rockaway Auto Sales trophy and $50,000 first prize when the final of the competition was played last weekend at Lusignan.
Trophy Stall took first strike and rattled up 100 for 3 off their allotted overs with Randy Ketwaroo leading the way with 55. Bowling for Regal XI, Privner Motilall took 1 for 25 off 2 overs to be their best bowler.
When Regal XI replied, they were restricted to 56 for 5 with Richard Latif making the top score of 17. Bowling for the winners, man-of-the-match Fazil Rafeek turned in an impressive performance, capturing 4 for 9 off 2 overs to lead their victory charge. Regal claimed $25,000 for their efforts. Rafeek took away $15,000. Earlier in semi-final play, Trophy Stall overcame El Commandante by 55 runs.
Trophy Stall rattled up 122 for 2 with Jadesh Deosarran slamming 91, while bowling for El Commandnate, Harrinarine Hera took 2 for 21 off 2 overs.
In reply, El Commandnate were restricted to 73 for 7 with Navindra Balram 29 not out being their best batsman. For Trophy Stall, Gary Singh picked up 2 for 11 off 2 overs.
In the second semi-final, Regal XI overcame Sandust by 9 wickets. Sandust XI made 86 for 7 with Kevin Ragubeer 41, while for Regal XI Privner Motilall took 2 for 23 off 2 overs. Regal XI responded with 87 for 1. Richard Latif top scored with 39 not out.
In the quarter-final matches: Trophy Stall beat Trophy Stall ‘B’ by 8 runs in a close encounter.
Trophy Stall 104 for 5 off 10 overs (Fazil Rafeek 30; Devandra Deosarran 2 for 21 off 2 overs) Trophy Stall B 96 for 9 off 10 overs (Murphy Ramnauth 39; Dindyal Lakhan 2 for 11 off 2 overs)
Regal XI won by 5 runs. Regal XI 102 for 5 off 10 overs (Samuel Kingston 34; Lakeram Roopnarine 2 for 24 off 2 overs) Superior Wood 97 for 4 off 10 overs (Navin Singh 52; Saheed Gittens 1 for 7 off 1 over)
Sandust beat Annandale West by 69 runs. Sandust XI 117 for 9 off 10 overs (Vishnu Deochandra 28; Bharrat Jagdeo 3 for 14 off 2 overs) Annandale West 52 for 9 off 10 overs (Kennard Hookum 12; Reaz Haniff 3 for 13 off 2 overs)
And a ladies exhibition match was played prior to the final of the male competition and Street Warrior edged their opponents, Trophy Stall Angels, by 4 runs.
Street Warrior 48 for 2 off 5 overs (Don Budram 24; Tanisha Isahack 1 for 7 off 1 over)
Trophy Stall Angel fell short at 44 without loss (Kesha Lall 29 not out)
At the presentation ceremony held after the match, several organisations along with the top performers during the competition received varying rewards in recognition of the assistance and outstanding performances.
Among those receive rewards were the Mon Repos/La Reconnaissance Neighbourhood Democratic Council, Lusignan Sports Club, Amir Khan, Hemraj Chanderpaul, Brian Sattaur, Tanisha Isahack, Kesha Lall, Trophy Stall Angel, Street Warrior, Fazil Rafeek, Jagdesh Deosarran, Kumar Bishundial andBalram Roopnarine.
