The semi-final line up for the Mayor’s Cup football extravaganza will be determined tonight at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda.
Riddim Squad and the Guyana Defence Force have already booked their places and tonight’s encounters will decide the other two teams lining up alongside them for a crack at the $500,000 winner’s purse.
Opening things at 6:00pm will be Santos and Seawall FC of the West Demerara. The other quarter-final contest will pit Kashif and Shanghai champs, BK International Western Tigers up against Fruta Conquerors.
These sides in action tonight will pull out all the stops to make it to the money round, joining GDF and Riddim Squad.
Santos will look to the skills of O’Neil Heywood, Glenorvan Edmonds, Trevor Lewis, William Europe and Shemroy Arthur to lead their challenge against Seawall FC. The West Demerara lads have Toine lopes, Delon Josiah, Garlon Lewis and Cleveland Walcott spearheading their charge. An interesting match-up is anticipated.
The second match is expected to produce fireworks. Western Tigers, who are regrouping after losing a few members following their Kashif and Shanghai triumph, are still a potent force and will look to prove that fact.
Captain Sherman David, Michael Henry, Nedd Fraser, Maxwell Pellew and Dwayne Ali are the lead figures taking the fight for the Tigers, but fans can expect an allround team effort.
Conquerors will depend on veteran Neville Stanton, Mustapha Hack, Jomo Hinds, skipper Jolyon Harry and Paul Bobb to lead their attack and strike the Tigers, Easier said that done, an all out ‘war’ is envisaged.
The top four are assured of lucrative incentives of $500,000, $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively, however, all the teams will be focused on the top $500,000 prize.
Among the companies lending support are Digicel, Macorp, Guyana Beverage Company Ltd (Busta), Banks DIH Ltd, GT&T, Beepat and Sons, Bakewell, Gold Target, Nazar Mohamed, Keishar’s, Giftland Office Max and DDL.
