Fresh from a scintillating performance at the just concluded Tri-Nation Scrabble tournament in Trinidad and Tobago where he captured the individual title, former national scrabble champion Fred Collins would be out to regain the ground he lost locally when he surrendered his national scrabble crown to Abigail McDonald last year when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) stage two open tournaments on May 1 and 5 respectively.
The tournaments are open to anyone under the auspices of GASP and already several of the top players have signaled an intention to participate. Among those vying for honours are McDonald, Moen Gafoor, James Krakowsky and Yvonne Murray among others. Much is also expected of Ewart Adams who has rebounded nicely into the top rankings after a year long hiatus from the sport.
Both tournaments would be held at the Malteenoes Sports Club, Thomas Lands and the winners would receive trophies and other lucrative prizes. The registration period begins at 09:45hrs both days and the first tile would be laid at 10:00hrs.
