Dear Editor,
We the cattle farmers on the right and left bank of the Abary Creek from Blairmont to the reservoir are in dire need of water for our cattle that are dying everyday.
The water in the trenches is muddy, some cows that is strong, at this point drink the water, those that are weak when they go to drink water they stick in the mud and die.
Those that eat the dry grass and can’t get water die from thirst and constipation. The water in the creek is low and only the fittest survive.
The ratio of deaths in this area is for every 30 head of cattle owned by a farmer in this area he loses one animal per day. In another week or two it will be worst.
Farmers are paying approximately $500 per acre to the MMA for drainage and irrigation and we are not getting either of the two in the years 2008-2009.
Farmers in this area lost nearly 1000 head of cattle from flooding. These losses are due to negligence of the dictators of MMA.
Cattle farmers will be losing again; cattle farmers are not counted at MMA only their money are counted and when you don’t pay they publish your names in the Newspapers. Whenever you ask them for a little water they say rice farmers and GuySuCo first.
It is hoped that the Minister of Agriculture sees this letter and inform the dictators at MMA to give the poor cattle some water before they die from thirst.
