Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc, in collaboration with the Roetheli’s Lil’ Red Foundation of the United States of America has commenced a third housing project in Region Two.
Dubbed Princeville Housing Project, the works will see the construction of 65 two-bedroom houses along with sanitation blocks and a community centre consisting of a library and two skills training areas.
There will also be a trade store and extension and renovation to the existing Lake Mainstay Primary School building. Additionally, there will be installation of pipelines to allow the residents to have easy access to water from the current well and self-sustainable projects put in place including plant and animal husbandry. Several of the projects are expected to empower the beneficiaries.
So far, 25 houses have been completed. The entire project is set for completion by the end of June.
The beneficiaries will be families currently living under poor housing conditions from the Mainstay, Tapakuma and Lima Sands areas.
Two villages, Lil’ Red Village and Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast and New Haven Village, Siriki, Pomeroon River have previously been done by the Roethelis who pride themselves in carrying out the teachings of Jesus Christ on Earth.
FFTP’s contribution to housing in Amerindian and other villages has been significant with this being the third being built in Amerindian areas and the fifth of its kind in Guyana.
Food for the Poor project personnel recently met with some of the beneficiaries who expressed gratitude and were overjoyed with appreciation for God’s blessings bestowed upon them in such a manner. They also conveyed gratitude for Roetheli’s and their kindness to them.
Mr. Joel Pearson, Village Councillor who spoke on behalf of the villagers, reiterated what the villagers expressed and asked that God continues to bless them so that more can be done.
