Twenty-eight year-old Kishaun Azore was not required to plead to the indictable offence of murder when the charge was read to him by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday.
Azore is accused of killing Keion Curiton, on March 18, 2008, at Durban Street, Lodge. His lawyer Mark Waldron told the court that it was the second time his client had been charged for the same offence. Waldron said that the DPP wrote a letter stating that she was exercising her powers -striking out the old case and charging him again. He explained that his client was committed to stand trial in the High Court, but the committal warrant was not signed.
He said that his client has spent the last four years of his life behind bars, and is requesting an early date for the commencement of the preliminary inquiry.
