Air traffic controllers are trying to ascertain the fate of the crew and passengers of a helicopter which went off the radar during a trip to Issano yesterday.
Reports are that the chopper had left Issano yesterday afternoon but air traffic controllers lost contact with the craft.
Officials of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that they lost contact with the aircraft late yesterday but declined to say who the chopper belonged to.
Kaieteur News understands that the chopper was chartered from Suriname and left Georgetown with five persons on board.
While there are no reports of a crash in the area it is believed that the helicopter went down.
According to a source, the chopper went into the area with a member of the Guyana Defence Force and some civilians on board.
The party was to spend about an hour on the ground and then return to the city.
However, air traffic controllers failed to make contact with the chopper during the time it was supposed to be returning to Georgetown.
They contacted a source in the area who informed them that the chopper had left Issano for the city.
However since then there has been no trace of the chopper or its passengers.
