The parents of the four-year-old girl who was molested by a 39-year-old Kitty miner, said they are now satisfied with the status of the investigation.
Yesterday, the child’s father told this newspaper that his daughter is doing much better having received few sessions of counseling, courtesy of the Child Protection Services.
According to the man, on Friday, a rank from the Guyana Police Force visited their home and asked for the child’s birth certificate to verify her age. This was made available and the father said he was advised that the file was finally sent off to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
He added that based on the response he has been receiving from the police, it seems as if justice would be served. “I went to tell the police that the man had left to go into the interior and they assured me that they are aware of that and that they will get him when they are ready for him,” the man related.
He added that he will allow his daughter to get as much counseling as is necessary. On Sunday last, a 39-year-old man of Station Street, Kitty, was caught half naked with a four- year-old neighbour. The matter was reported to the police and the man reportedly admitted to molesting the child but stated that the child asked him to do it.
Despite receiving information that the child and the man are neighbours, the police released the man on station bail, mere hours after the report was made.
Following that, the child was reportedly made to endure taunts from the man and his relatives. After the story was highlighted, the Child Protection Agency went in search of the child and offered their services.
