Lieutenant Commander Vernon Burnette was elected to serve as President of the Guyana Defence Force Football Club at its Annual General Meeting which was held on Thursday evening in the gymnasium, at Camp Ayanganna.
Burnette will serve for one year along with the new executive.
Captain Eon Murray was elected to serve as his deputy, while Warrant Officer Dwayne Thomas is the 2nd Vice-President and Lt. Commander Orin Porter is the 3rd Vice-President.
The other members on the executive are Secretary- Petty Officer Jason Benjamin; Treasurer- ex-Staff Sergeant Pamela Julian; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer- Najeeta Hadway and PRO-Corporal Randy King.
In his acceptance speech, Burnette thanked members for their expression of confidence in electing him to the highest office, adding that he will strive to do his best in effecting positive changes within the organisation that could garner the best results.
He also called on them to adopt a new attitude that will serve the team in a positive way, urging them to bring a new line of discipline and character for the new term.
“I want to call on all of you to display more discipline and love for each other and stop the pettiness that really affected our performance last season,” Burnette told the gathering.
All the other members of the new executive that were present offered their thanks to the members for placing their faith in them, promising to help lift the standards that could ultimately bring positive results for the team.
