‘De’ Ambassadors awarded the outstanding riders from its Goed Fortuin ‘Grass Track’ race meeting Tuesday night at Club Diamond on Hadfield Street where junior sensation, Junior DaSilva was adjudged best professional rider.
In his brief remarks before handing over the prizes to the daredevils, ‘De’ Ambassadors’ Sheik Yaseen told those present that despite a few minor accidents, the riders, mechanics and enthusiast colluded to provide an entertaining day.
“We had a wonderful day despite a few accidents. No one was hospitalised but I think the riders, mechanics and those that came out did a wonderful job. I just want to congratulate all of them,” Yaseen said at the simple award ceremony.
Dave Gangadin launched himself into contention for the Championship award in the series when he opened with a win in the first professional race. Andy Rajkarran took the second place while Junior DaSilva was third.
The emergence of Marlon Baksh was also one of the highlights of the event when he won the first novices race, leaving Raj Rajkarran and Jerry DaSilva to fight for second and third places respectively.
Andy Rajkarran then turned the tables in the pros with a win in the third race that left the sensational Junior DaSilva, who is now riding in the pros after dominating the novices, in second with Baksh taking the third position.
Jerry DaSilva won the second novice race ahead of Raj Rajkarran and Ramesh Latchman as his brother, Junior, fed off his performance to also win his first race that left Jerry and Latchman in second and third respectively.
In the choppy competition, Satesh Singh raced to the top of the podium ahead of Satesh Somwaru and Azim Husein.
Singh also won the next two choppy races in front of the two competitors and Hazrat Ali in the third choppy race.
The order of the next three novice races went in favour of Jerry, Baksh and Rajkarran with Rajkarran reversing the order in the final race when he defeated Baksh to finish in the second position behind DaSilva.
