Buxton came from behind to draw with an improved Victoria Kings while the Guyana Defence Force, coming off a disappointing debut in the Caribbean Football Union Champions League Qualifying competition spared little time in dismantling the challenge of Milerock with a clinical 3-0 triumph.
Victoria Kings had taken the lead on the stroke of half time compliments of a Pierre Joseph scorcher from 40yards out. Buxton never gave up search for the equaliser which finally came their way when their leading marksman, multi talented forward Clive Andries converted a 75th minute penalty.
The result ensured that the young Buxton side keep the lead and their unbeaten record intact with 8 points from 4 games, 2 wins and 2 draws. Victoria Kings were left to wallow in the penultimate position with a single point from 3 matches having suffered 2 losses.
Up at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground in the Bauxite Mining Town, GDF banged home team Milerock 3-0. Captain Warren Gilkes led the goal charge with one each from Hubert Pedro and Peter Parks.
With the result, the GDF moved into second position one point behind Buxton having played 3 matches and also boast an unbeaten record same as defending champions Alpha United after 2 matches.
Super League rivalry will continue on Saturday when Alpha, who has qualified for the second round of the CFU Champions League Qualifying competition in Trinidad & Tobago, takes on Buxton United at the Enmore Community Centre ground from 16:00hrs.
Up at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground also on Saturday, Bakewell Topp XX will entertain Rosignol United while Milerock will be seeking to erase the memory of last Sunday’s defeat to the GDF when they match skills with Sunburst Camptown in the opening game from 18:00hrs.
On Sunday, action will again return to the Enmore Community Centre Ground, the confident Victoria Kings will match skills with Bartica’s Liquid Gold from 16:00hrs and down at the GFC ground in the City from 19:00hrs, GDF and Sewall will collide.
In a Women’s Inter Association fixture on Sat at the Enmore Ground, Georgetown and East Coast will face off from 14:00hrs while up at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground, Bartica will oppose Berbice from 16:00hrs.
