Residents of West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme are disturbed at the state of the drainage and irrigation trenches on Hunter Street.
According to one resident who has been living in the area for decades, the trench in the area has become greatly clogged. “It was a trench that people use to swim across.”
He added if the rain is to start pouring the entire area would be flooded, since in its present state, if it is not cleaned by the relevant authorities, it would be disastrous.
Another resident noted that persons could actually walk into the trench and cut grass for their animals. “Can you imagine how blocked up it is?”
“The authorities are always lackadaisical in their approach and should be proactive where drainage and health issues are affecting residents,” one man said.
