As Barticians and visitors to the community geared up for the Annual East Regatta festivities, they were formally introduced to the delegates who are vying for the Miss Regatta 2009 title yesterday evening.
The nine delegates were all part of a motorcade that took off from the Bartica Community Centre ground, then through the streets of the community, which was thronged with onlookers.
The nine delegates, Patrice Wilson, Lydia Timmerman, Rafeena Sattaur, Nickesha Fraser, Jessica Mc Kenzie, Abiola Allen, Nicketia Henry, Tiffany Wong and Annece Hicks, were all decked out in beach wear as they sat on jet skis and on boats which were towed along the roadway.
The motorcade ended right where it started and the dealegates made a special appearance at the Regatta Kick Off Football Tournament, which was held at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.
The delegates are all set for the pageant, which will be held later this evening at the Modern and Regional Office Square. The delegates who are all from Bartica are expected to wow the anticipated crowd. They will compete in the intelligence, swimwear and talent piece.
Later today the water sport events are expected to kick off. These include powerboat racing, Jet Ski races and canoe races.
The regatta got underway yesterday with the Bartica road race and the River swim. Those two events were well supported. The activities will continue with more powerboat racing on Easter Monday and the Peter Ram Concert on Monday night.
Meanwhile this year’s Regatta is expected to be the biggest in recent times. Already the streets, hotels and bars throughout the Bartica community are filled with both locals and visitors.
For some this is their first visit while for others this event has been fitted into their yearly calendar of activities.
