Forty-one year-old Deo Chung was yesterday sentenced to one year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to escaping from lawful custody. Chung appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Chung pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on March 20, while being a prisoner at the Kitty Police Station pending a criminal matter, he escaped.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day in question, Chung was arrested after it was suspected that he had broken into a neighbour’s home.
Telford said that police ranks arrested him and he was taken to the Kitty Police Station.
While at the station the accused was placed in the holding area waiting to be processed by the ranks.
The ranks made checks later and discovered that Chung had escaped. He was later found in Kitty. Chung was again arrested and taken into custody.
