Waheid Edwards & Farouk Hussain to rest for 18 months each
The Executive of the Young Warriors Cricket Club (YWCC) of Berbice has banned two of its first-division players for the next 18 months with effect from April 1 and they will also have to pay a fine of $5,000 each.
The players are Waheid Edwards and Farouk Hussain, who both failed to turn up for the 2nd day of the Guyana Cricket Board organised 3-day National Inter-Club Cricket Competition match between West Berbice and YWCC at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground.
The two players, according to a press release from the club, were called for a hearing on Monday March 22 but Edwards failed to turn up.
Based on evidence, the Disciplinary Committee of the club found both players guilty of being rude, disrespectful while showing a lack of discipline and commitment.
The club over the years, the release stated, may have sacrificed discipline and good ethics for the desire of winning.
However, the case of Edwards and Hussain will be reviewed at the end of the first six months. Anil Beharry, a Senior Executive of YWCC and Berbice Cricket Board, advised that both players take the penalty in a positive light and work towards being better individuals on and off the field, in the future.
Beharry added that the club will no longer put up with indiscipline which can become a chronic disease. He said that the club aims to keep young people from the ills of society through cricket.
