Residents of Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, are peeved at the regular breakages of pipelines that are laid across the road which is currently being graded for reconstruction.
According to Bharat Persaud, the pipelines that are laid across the road are very fragile. He said that they have no exterior protection to withstand the pressure that some vehicles exert when using the road.
One resident said that the grader has destroyed pipelines while doing its work and the workers would just patch the pipelines with rubber and replace dirt over the breakage.
“Now if crush and run is laid and then tar we would have to destroy the road to fix it. Is that the brains the country’s got?”
He added many of the pipelines within the dam are being destroyed, and water is being wasted in this dry season. “Is that what we want?” According to another resident, the pipelines should be laid on the shoulders of the road because if pipelines are broken within the roads by the vibrations and weight, the road would have to be destroyed to fix the pipeline.
“It is just a hose line run across the road. There is no protective barrier to support the hose.”
Residents are calling on the relevant authority to find a solution for the wastage of water and the inconvenience.
