On Friday, last, US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Karen Williams presented Certificates of Completion to 15 members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard Unit, who had completed the Coast Guard Advanced Boarding Course.
Attending the graduating ceremony were Coast Guard Commander Godfrey George, and GDF Army Lieutenant Colonel Persaud. Led by U.S. Coast Guard personnel, the two-week course focused on human rights while giving GDF Coast Guard sailors vital skills in Basic Maritime Law, Basic and Advanced Defensive Tactics, and Team Coordination for Tactical Boarding Procedures.
These skills and support of human rights are intended to enhance the professionalism of these GDF sailors and their ability to keep Guyana safe.
