Dear Editor,
I refer to the letter “Whenever God is invoked to maintain oppression, the invokers forget there are other beliefs” (SN 21/3/10) and would appreciate the opportunity to rebut.
Vidyaratha Kissoon now takes his cue from Antoine Craigwell, and, stunned that the medical, legal, moral and social-policy evidence now seem stacked against his cause for transgenderism and gay “rights”, continues on a reckless path to pit religion against religion in Guyana. In this case, it is easy to see his deliberate prodding at Hindu sensibilities simply because, it seems, they have rejected his, and SASOD’s overtures.
We have comprehensively addressed Craigwell and Kissoon’s attempts to fashion a recipe for social chaos in Guyana in the online article “The Case Against Cross-dressing and Transgenderism in Guyana”
One interesting point in that article occurs when Dr. Paul McHugh, in 2005, comes to this cataclysmic conclusion about transgenderism: “…We have wasted scientific and technical resources and damaged our professional credibility by collaborating with madness rather than trying to study, cure, and ultimately prevent it…” (See “Transgenderism is a Gender-Identity Disorder; Transgenderism is a Mental Disor-
Therein lies the issue. The approach by SASOD and Kissoon is cruel and callous to their “followers” in that nowhere do we see them advocating for medical/spiritual treatment and therapy. Dr. Jeffrey Satinover’s book “Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth” investigates options for those affected by same-sex-attraction-disorders. Dr. Paul McHugh above assesses some of the issues regarding transgenderism or gender-identity-disorder. Readers should find McHugh’s short introductory article chock full of common sense!
Rather than railing at God, Kissoon should instead express wonder at the fact that so much secular authoritative research and opinion is now seen to validate conservative religious/medical/legal opinion on the issue of transgenderism and homosexuality, especially their inevitable outcomes…sustained damage to the national ethos at the personal, community and national levels.
The evidence is clear! Kissoon and SASOD should be rejected yet again!
