Local Group 4 champion Paul Vieira said he will be challenging the ‘big guns’ when they clash at next Sunday’s Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club Meet, at the South Dakota Circuit.
The younger brother of ex-champion Mark, Paul, in an invited comment with Kaieteur Sport yesterday, said that his preparations are going well after doing some important changes to his Mazda RX7 which is being sponsored by Carib Beer.
“We’ve done some changes to the fuel system, changing it from the carburettor type inserting the fuel injection model, while we also did some work on the suspension all with the aim of getting more speed critically needed to battle with the top cars.”
Vieira, who won all three local Group 4 races at the November Meet, indicated that duplicating that performance will be difficult this time, but he will be going into the races with a positive mind.
“The competition is very strong and honestly my car is technically not on par with the others, but having said that I’m going to be positive about my chances and not be intimidated by them,” he said.
He added that they are going to make the best out of what they have, pointing out that they are still in a developmental phase.
“I’m currently looking for a tube-framed car because as you know there is only so much I can do with the current one.”
Vieira stated that he is hoping to break into the 35 seconds lap time, disclosing that his best time to date is 36.1.
