The 2010 season of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) commenced on March 13 with a .22 precision pistol competition at the Eve Leary Ranges.
As this was the first day of shooting for the year, it was decided to test the trigger fingers of the shooters and to get them going in the form of a two-day shoot.
The .22 precision pistol competition saw a healthy turnout of 21 members. Shooting at this Range has improved significantly since the collaboration between the TSU and the GNRA has garnered the help of Vice Captain (Small Bore) Mohamed Qualander to improve the Range – lighting, extractor fans and painting among other amenities.
When the dust was settled, Dale Hing ended in 3rd place with the recent and dynamic shooter Ian Rogers knocking out some of the top shooters to take the runner-up spot. Dr. Johan DaSilva continued his dominance from last year making the top score to take the top spot.
The excitement and enthusiasm spilled over into the second day with 16 shooters taking part in a two-stage IPSC Competition at the Timehri Rifle Ranges, Yarrowkabra. The blistering heat saw some notable performances by all the members.
Most notable occurrence of the day was the disqualification of Dr. Johan DaSilva for an infringement of the rules. The new level of shooting has drawn out the stringent safety procedures that have to be adhered to. This building of safety represents the Association’s commitment to ensure a 0% accident rate by all its members.
At the end of the day, Dale Hing showed that he was going to be the man to beat this year, with the ever increasing level of shooting by all its members, he has always tried to keep his game to match. That he did to romp home. The scores saw Ryan McKinnon finishing 2nd and James Singh, 3rd.
