A manager attached to the Federal Management Systems and who is accused of causing death by dangerous driving was remanded by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
The man, 53-year-old Colin Josiah, of Lot 22 North Sophia, is accused of driving his vehicle in a dangerous manner to cause the death of Nazeem Juman, on February 14, last.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was represented by attorney at law Sase Gunraj. The lawyer in his bail application told the court that Josiah is employed as a manager at Federal Management Systems for over 10 years.
Gunraj explained to the court that Josiah is married with 11 children. The lawyer said that his client has no pervious convictions and poses no flight risk. He said that bail should be granted in a reasonable sum. The lawyer noted after the incident Josiah was placed on $100,000 station bail. He was reporting and cooperating with members of the Guyana Police Force. Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail. The prosecutor stated that Juman was in the hospital in an unconscious state and succumbed on March 3 without regaining consciousness.
Telford said that Josiah was driving and as he approached the major road he failed to stop. That resulted in Josiah’s vehicle colliding with Juman pick-up.
Telford said that Juman’s vehicle turned turtle and he was pulled form the vehicle in an unconscious stated.
Bail was refused by the magistrate and Josiah is expected to make another court appearance on March 16.
