Thirty-two-year-old Lethem businessman, Wayne Thomas, is nursing a stab wound to his chest, a victim of mistaken identity.
Thomas was stabbed around midnight Saturday by another Guyanese who is residing in neighbouring Brazil.
The suspect is presently hospitalised in a hospital in Boa Vista, Brazil, after sustaining a severe beating from residents who managed to subdue him following the stabbing.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that Thomas was dancing with a young woman at the popular Satties’ Bar in Lethem when the suspect walked up to him and stabbed him.
The woman who was dancing with Thomas began to scream, alerting several other patrons of the bar.
They responded by holding on to the suspect and thrashing him severely.
While Thomas was rushed to the Lethem hospital, his attacker was handed over to the police who subsequently took him for medical attention.
Because of his condition, the suspect was sent to Brazil for emergency treatment.
However, residents believe that he may not return to Guyana to face charges.
Kaieteur News understands that before departing for Brazil, the suspect indicated that he had attacked the wrong man.
Meanwhile, Thomas’ condition is listed as stable.
